Women's Volleyball Battles Back to Defeat Crosstown Rival

READING, Pa- The Albright women's volleyball team found themselves down two sets to none to crosstown rival, Alvernia University, on Senior Night, yet, the Lions did not back down. The Lions challenged the Crusaders over the final three sets to win Thursday night's match 3-2 by scores of 21-25, 24-26, 25-20, 25-21, 15-10.

Both teams were evenly matched trading points throughout the first two games before Alvernia pulled away late in the sets to take a 2-0 lead. The Lions continued their offensive prowess and swung the momentum towards them to force a decisive fifth set. The Lions and Crusaders traded points with Alvernia holding an 8-7 lead as the teams switched sides. The Lions quickly erased their deficit and scored four of the next six points to take a 11-9 lead. The Crusaders used their first timeout in an attempt to slow down the Lions, but the decision was futile as Albright would go on to extend their lead to 14-10. After a second Alvernia timeout, Albright would finish off the Crusaders 15-10.

Maddy Greth finished the night with 14 kills and 13 digs—her sixth double-double of the season—as well as two aces and a pair of blocks. Claudia Guise paced Albright's offense with 27 assists. Shaniyah Taylor finished with nine kills, five blocks, and an ace, while Katie Schmerse added 14 digs, four kills, two aces, and an assist. Defensively, Becca Davis recorded 12 digs and Cheyenne Robinett tallied two blocks.

Prior to Thursday night's match, Albright honored seniors Greth, Robinett, and Patricia Horgan for their dedication and commitment to the volleyball program over the past four years.
