READING, Pa. – The Albright men's soccer team had some late-game heroics against Stevenson on Saturday night at Shirk Stadium, tying the score with less than 10 minutes to play in regulation. But the Mustangs topped the Lions in overtime, getting the winner in the 99
th minute for a 2-1 victory.
The goal to even the score for Albright came in the 83
rd minute from
Yuya Oyama. He made a line for the net while
Lawrence Pierre carried down the right side. Pierre sent a low, hard pass into Oyama's direction, and he redirected that pass into the net past keeper Michael Tringali.
Pierre nearly won the match in overtime before Stevenson's goal. In the ensuing action following a corner kick by
Eric Adamo, Pierre settled the ball inside the 6-yard box and fired upon Tringali, but he stood tall and made the save.
Soon after, Stevenson's Jonathan Hart got behind the defense on the right side and whistled a shot past Albright keeper
Billy Mullen. Mullen did make three saves including a sparkler where he leaped to deflect a shot off the crossbar and out of play.
Stevenson got on the board in the third minute. DR Medtart took a free kick from about 30 yards out down the right side. His kick bent to the far post where Adam Diabagate headed it home to give the Mustangs an early 1-0 lead.
Albright outshot Stevenson, 9-7, led by Adamo and
Andrew Sussingham with two shots each.
Albright next plays at Widener on Tuesday night.
