READING, Pa- The Albright men's swim team ended the Lions dual match with Cabrini College on a high note as the 800 freestyle relay team shattered an Albright Natatorium record Saturday afternoon. The Lions topped the Cavaliers 142 to 86.
After witnessing their teammates break the women's 800 freestyle relay pool record,
Ken Richardson, William Griffith,
Brendan Mackey-Wood, and
Teag Culver teamed up to break the pool record themselves. The foursome blew their competition out of the water finishing with a time of 7:21.91.
Albright won eight of the 12 individual events with Matthew Schaeffer earning a pair of victories. The freshman won the 50 freestyle and 200 backstroke. In the 50 freestyle, Schaeffer edged out his teammate finishing with a time of 23.25. The freshman earned first-place honors in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:13.09.
Nicholas Cancino, Mackey-Wood, Griffith, Richardson, Culver, and Stephen Kolokithias also captured individual wins in their respective races. Cancino finished ahead of the competition in the 1000 freestyle in 10:44.27, while Mackey-Wood finished 10 seconds ahead of the competition to earn top honors in the 200 freestyle in 1:51.85. Griffith edged out his teammate with a time of 1:00.51 to earn a victory in the 100 backstroke. Richardson won the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.73, while Culver defeated his opponents in the 100 freestyle in 50.74. Kolokithias beat out his teammate for a first-place finish in the 200 breaststroke with the sophomore completing the race in 2:30.73.
Richardson, along with
Tyler Chamberlin,
Jay Deschamps, and
Hunter Page, took home top honors in the 200 medley relay. The Lions topped their competition with a time of 1:41.75.
The Lions return to the pool next month when the team travels to West Chester University of Pennsylvania to compete in the two-day Golden Ram Invitational. The first day of competition is Friday, December 9th.
