Men’s Basketball Holds Off Arcadia, 68-67

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Albright men's basketball team held off a late charge by Arcadia to defeat the Knights, 68-67, on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Lions move to 2-0 in MAC Commonwealth play with a pair of road victories in conference play.

After leading by 13 at halftime, Albright fought off a late charge by Arcadia in an effort to tie or take the lead. Calvert Gantz hit two free throws with 1:27 left to make it 67-61 Lions. After an Arcadia free throw and two misses by Albright, the Knights cut it to a single possession at 67-64 with a made jumper with only 17 seconds left.

Albright turned the ball over on its next possession, and Arcadia hit two more free throws to make it 67-66. Damon Stern made one of two foul shots at the other end for Albright to restore a 68-66 lead. Arcadia again drew a foul with just four seconds left for a chance to tie the score, but it made only one of two. On the second-shot miss, however, the ball went out of bounds off of Albright, giving Arcadia the ball down by just a point. The last-second three pointer by Evan Slone hit the back iron to preserve a one-point win for the Lions.

The Lions (4-2, 2-0) led by as many as 16 points on two separate occasions in the first half before heading into the intermission with a 40-27 lead. DeJuan Smith scored 10 of his team-high 15 points in the first half, one of 11 different Albright players to score in the first half. Smith scored four straight points on a 6-0 streak to give the Lions a 36-20 lead with 2:32 left in the half.

Omari Ringgold joined Smith in double figures for Albright, finishing with 11 points. Brandon Lindsay had nine points while Stern registered seven points.

Albright returns home for a conference matchup with Widener on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
