READING, Pa. –
Nick Tonno scored a career-high three goals leading the Albright men's lacrosse team to a 9-6 victory over Marymount (Va.) on Saturday in Shirk Stadium.
Albright used a decisive third period, which was highlighted by a pair of goals from Tonno, to pull away from the Saints.
Deadlocked at 3-3 at the intermission, Tonno got the Lions on the board early in the third when he scored off a feed from
Ethan Howell giving the Lions a 4-3 lead.
Max Johnson answered with an unassisted goal for Marymount, which knotted the game at 4-4 at the 13:36 mark of the third.
Andrew Potter put the Lions ahead to stay when scored off a pass from
James Egleston to put Albright back in front 5-4 with 9:50 left in the third period.
Tonno then scored his second goal of the period off a feed from
Jordan Zehr that increased the Lions lead to 6-4 with 6:41 to play in the period.
Tyler Strayline capped the period for Albright as he netted a shot off a pass from Potter to up the lead to 7-4.
Nate Rhoads opened the fourth period with a goal off the third assist of the game for Zehr to push the margin to 8-4 with 12:33 to play.
Matthew Ebert and Bryan Mcmanus scored goals for Marymount to trim the lead to 8-6 with 3:33 to play, but Rhoads tallied his second goal of the game with three seconds remaining to seal the win for Albright.
Cam Cetrone and
Matthew Lomady also added goals for Albright, while Potter joined Zehr with three assists for the game.
Ryan Aler picked up the win in goal for Albright as he recorded 12 saves on the afternoon.
Albright returns to action on March 6 against SUNY Potsdam at 1 p.m. in Scranton, Pa.
