Albright Rally Comes up Short Against Scranton

READING, Pa. -- Micah Storms drove in three runs and Tanner Brescancine collected four hits, but Scranton held off a late Albright rally to top the Lions 7-6 in non-conference play on Tuesday at Kelchner Field.

The Lions fell behind 7-0, but rallied back into the game and had the winning run on base when the game ended.

Trailing 7-0, Albright got on the board in the seventh inning. With two outs, Brandon Triantos, Bryan Brubaker, Storms and Noah Beebe all drew walks to force in a run and cut the lead to 7-1.

Albright, which dropped to 3-9 on the season, scored four times in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Brescancine singled to center to open the frame, and following two strikeouts, Joe Suppa doubled to center to score Brescancine and trim the lead to 7-2.

Triantos and Brubaker followed with walks and Storms laced a bases-clearing double that brought Albright to within 7-5. Kyle Gantert followed with a single to right, but Storms was cut down at the plate to end the inning.

Pinch hitter Julian Cimino led off the ninth inning with a single and advanced to second on a single by Brescancine. Both runners moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt by Jesse Fikslin. Pinch hitter Austin Roth drew a walk to load the bases and Suppa singled to right to score Cimino to cut the lead to 7-6.

Scranton reliever David Chromey was able to get a strikeout and a lineout to escape any further damage and pick up the save for the Royals.

Storms finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Brescancine was 4-for-5 and scored a run. Suppa went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs, while Gantert, Cimino and Triantos each collected one hit.

Albright was able to get back into the game behind a stellar relief performance from Anthony Bartok, Andrew Lewis and Phil Staehle. Bartok went 1.2 and struck out two batters, while Lewis pitched two scoreless innings and Staehle worked a scoreless ninth inning.

Scranton, which improved to 6-7 on the season, was led by Zach Dignam and Dan Hansen who each collected three hits. Brian Healy drove in two runs, while Patrick O'Dell, Brad Schneider and Hansen also drove in runs for the Royals.

Albright returns to action on Thursday (March 24) when it hosts Lebanon Valley in a MAC Commonwealth game at 3:30 p.m. at Kelchner Field.
