READING, Pa. -- The Albright softball team lost both ends of a non-conference doubleheader to visiting York (Pa.) on Wednesday at the Albright Softball Field.
York won the opener 1-0 and completed the sweep with a 13-2 victory in game two.
The Lions, who dropped to 14-7 on the season, lost a pitcher's duel in game one between York's Melissa Jurkiewicz and the Lions
Sammi O'Connor.
Jurkiewicz allowed just three hits in 7.0 innings and struck out five, while O'Connor permitted just six hits and struck out five batters.
The Spartans pushed across the only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning when Miranda Shandy hit an RBI single that scored Haley Hirn with what proved to be the winning run.
O'Connor had a pair of hits to lead the Lions in game one, while
Jordan Chell also had a base hit.
Game two was all Spartans as York rolled to a 13-2 victory on the strength of a seven-run third inning.
York, which improved to 17-5 with the two wins, took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning, but the Lions would answer.
Stephanie Pomante led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on an error by the rightfielder. Pomante advanced to third on a groundout and came in to score when
Morgan Cullen singled to left to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Spartans responded with seven runs in the top of the third inning to push the lead to 9-1.
Albright scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning when O'Connor singled to score Chell who had also singled.
York put the game away by tacking on four runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Albright returns to action on Saturday (April 2) when it visits Hood for a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
