O'Connor Throws Shutout; Lions Split at Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. -- Senior Sammi O'Connor threw a three-hit shutout leading Albright to a 2-0 victory in game one and a split of its MAC Commonwealth doubleheader versus Arcadia at Blankley Field on Tuesday.

Albright won the opener 2-0 in eight innings and fell 3-2 in eight innings in game two.

O'Connor dominated the Knights in game one, but the Lions would need extra innings to register the victory.

O'Connor allowed three hits and struck out 12 batters in game one, but was matched by Arcadia starter Erin Wilson who allowed five hits and kept the Lions off the scoreboard for the first seven innings of the game.

Albright, which is 15-8 overall and 1-3 in conference play, took control of game one in the top of the eight inning.

With one out, Brianne Long started the rally with an infield single. She advanced to second on a groundout by Kelly Cembrale and moved to third when Jordan Chell recorded an infield single to shortstop.

Albright took a 1-0 lead when Stephany Courtney reached on an Arcadia error allowing Long to score. O'Connor followed with a base hit that scored Chell and upped the lead to 2-0.

O'Connor worked around a two-out infield single to secure the victory for the Lions in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Arcadia, which is 13-9 overall and 2-6 in the MAC Commonwealth, jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game two.

Albright took the lead in the top of the sixth inning with a pair of runs.

Stephanie Pomante began the rally with a one-out walk. She advanced to second when Regina Milburn followed with a single and came in to score when Long lined a double to right centerfield tying the game at 1-1.

Courtney then delievered an RBI groundout scoring Milburn and putting Albright in front 2-1.

Arcadia pushed across the tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI single by Tori Zaccaria. The Knight won the game in the bottom of the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by Nicole Iasiello.

Albright returns to action on Saturday (April 9) when it visits Lycoming for a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
