UTICA, N.Y. --
Danielle Carey scored the go-ahead goal with 7:58 to play in the second half and
Jacqui Montague tallied three goals leading Albright to an 11-9 victory over Buffalo State at Charles Gaetano Stadium on Saturday in the American Heart Association Tournament.
Albright saw a pair of four-goal leads disappear, but the Lions had an answer. Carey scored an unassisted goal at the 7:58 mark of the second half to break a 9-9 deadlock and put the Lions in front to stay at 10-9.
Montague then clinched the victory for Albright as she added an unassisted goal with 1:55 to play that upped the Lions lead to 11-9.
Albright, which improved to 3-1 on the season, also received two goals each from
Amanda Smith,
Mariah Cullen and
Tori Meyer.
Erin Farrell and Carey each finished with a goal, while Farrell led Albright with two assists.
Emily Hutson improved to 3-1 on the season in goal for the Lions as she turned aside seven shots to pick up the win.
Smith and Montague combined to give Albright an early 4-1 lead in the first half.
Smith scored the first two goals of the game giving the Lions a 2-0 lead with 28:42 to play in the opening stanza.
Alanna Herne got Buffalo State on the board with an unassisted goal, but Montague answered with back-to-back goals to increase the Lions lead to 4-1 with 20:07 remaining in the first.
Herne tallied her second goal of the game to cut the lead to 4-2, but Cullen and Farrell scored goals to increase the Albright margin to 6-2 with 7:43 remaining in the half.
Sarah Lorusso sandwiched two goals around a goal from Meyer to cut the Albright lead to 7-4 at the intermission.
After Cullen gave Albright a 9-6 advantage with a free-position goal with 18:47 to play in the game, Buffalo State ripped off three consecutive goals to tie the game at 9-9 with 9:35 left to play.
Buffalo State, which dropped to 1-2 on the season, was paced by Lorusso who had four goals and Herne who finished with three goals and three assists.
Albright will continue tournament play on Sunday (March 6) as it will face Utica at 1 p.m.
