READING, Pa. --
Tanner Brescancine had three hits, including his first career home run, but Hood broke a tie with a five-run eighth inning and went on to defeat Albright 10-5 in a MAC Commonwealth game on Friday at Kelchner Field.
Brescancine went 3-for-4 on the afternoon and drove in two runs to lead the Albright offensive attack.
Noah Beebe also had three hits, while
Jeff Yordy had two hits and stole a base.
Hood, which improved to 9-12 overall and 2-5 in the MAC Commonwealth, broke a 5-5 deadlock with five runs in the top of the eighth inning to pull away from the Lions.
Cam Esposito, Josh Gall, Dylan Johnson, Drake Friend and Chris Shriver all recorded two hits to lead the Blazers.
Hood jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Albright would respond.
With one out,
Micah Storms singled to left and Beebe followed with a single to right center.
Julian Cimino singled up the middle to load the bases and
Jesse Fikslin plated the Lions first run of the game when he reached on a fielder's choice.
Brescancine cut the lead to 3-2 when he singled to shortstop, which allowed Beebe to score.
The Blazers pushed the lead to 4-2 when Gall homered in the top of the third inning.
Albright rallied to tie the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Beebe doubled down the leftfield line to open the inning and advanced to third on a groundout by Cimino. Fikslin scored Beebe with an RBI groundout and Brescancine followed with his first career homer to straight away centerfield to tie the game at 4-4.
Hood regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning on an infield single by Nathan Kessler, but Albright would respond once again in the seventh inning.
Yordy reached on an infield single to begin the inning and stole second base. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when Beebe lined a single up the middle to tie the game at 5-5.
The Lions loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth inning and had two runners on in the bottom of the ninth inning, but couldn't push across a run.
The two teams will complete the series with a doubleheader on Saturday (April 2) beginning at 12 p.m. in Frederick, Md.
