Roth Leads Albright to Split Versus Arcadia

READING, Pa. -- Freshman Austin Roth singled in pinch-runner Kyle Gantert with the winning run in the fifth inning leading Albright to a 3-2 victory over Arcadia and a split of a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader on Sunday at Kelchner Field.

Albright won game one 3-2 and Arcadia bounced back to capture game two by a 6-3 score.

Albright, which is 4-18 overall and 1-11 in MAC Commonwealth play, trailed 2-0 in game one before rallying to take the lead.

The Lions tied the game at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Roth drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a single by Brandon Triantos. The Lions loaded the bases with one out when Nathan Fretz drew a walk.

The Lions tied the game when Jeff Yordy reached on a fielder's choice and the Arcadia catcher fired the ball down the rightfield line allowing Triantos and Fretz to come around to score.

Albright then took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Zach Krause doubled to lead off the inning to begin the go-ahead rally. Gantert pinch ran for Krause and advanced to third on a groundout by Jack Shevlin. Roth then singled to right plating Gantert with the eventual winning run.

Dylan Price worked the final three innings and allowed just one hit to pick up the victory on the mound for the Lions.

Arcadia, which is 17-10-1 overall and 8-4 in league play, broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the top of the third inning of the second game to go ahead for good.

Three Knights relievers combined to blank the Lions over the final three innings.

Yordy had two hits in game two and Logan Steidinger went 2-for-3 and scored a run for the Lions.

Albright returns to action on Wednesday (April 13) when it faces Elizabethtown at 6 p.m. at Owls Field.
