WEST LAWN, Pa. -- Freshman
Jeff Yordy had a career-high four hits, but Elizabethtown broke a 6-6 deadlock with a six-run eighth inning on its way to a 15-6 victory over Albright on Wednesday at Owls Field.
Yordy finished the game 4-for-5 and scored two runs and also had an RBI to lead the Albright offensive attack. The four hits topped his previous career best of three hits against SUNY Maritime.
Julian Cimino,
Tanner Brescancine and
Kyle Gantert added RBI for the Lions, while
Nathan Fretz,
Noah Beebe and Brescancine had hits for the Lions.
Dylan Price worked two scoreless innings in relief for Albright to extend his scoreless streak to five straight innings.
Elizabethtown, which improved to 16-12 on the season, received three hits and four RBI from Derek Manning. Brennan Snyder added two hits and three RBI for the Blue Jays.
Albright, which dropped to 4-19 on the season, wasted little time in getting on the board against the Blue Jays.
Fretz led off the Lions first inning with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He scored the first run of the game when Yordy reached on an infield single one batter later.
Yordy promptly stole second and moved to third when Beebe lined a single to centerfield. He came in to score when Cimino lifted a sacrifice fly to center to up the Lions lead to 2-0.
With two outs,
Joe Suppa and
Logan Steidinger drew walks to load the bases. Gantert then walked to force in Beebe and increase the margin to 3-0.
Elizabethtown answered with three runs in the top of the third inning, but Albright would answer in its half of the inning.
Brescancine singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second when Steidinger walked for the second straight time. Brescancine came around to score on an Elizabethtown throwing error to regain the lead at 4-3.
The Blue Jays took the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning and pushed the lead to 6-4 with a run in the top of the sixth inning.
Albright would once again have an answer in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Yordy bunted his way onto first base and stole second to begin the rally. Beebe and Cimino drew walks to load the bases and Brescancine reached on a fielder's choice and a throwing error permitted Yordy and Beebe to score to tie the game at 6-6.
Elizabethtown then blew the game open with six runs in the top of the eighth inning and then tacked on three more runs in the top of the ninth inning.
Albright returns to play on Friday (April 15) when it hosts Widener in the opener of a three-game series at 3:30 p.m. at Kelchner Field.
