READING, Pa. -- The Albright baseball team dropped the series opener to Widener 14-0 in a MAC Commonwealth game on Friday at Kelchner Field.
Justin Healey went 3-for-6 and drove in seven runs to lead the Pride, while Bob Barnett and John Petrongolo each had two hits for Widener.
Josh Lafferty went 7.0 innings for Widener and allowed just five hits and struck out three batters to improve to 6-2 on the season.
Albright, which fell to 4-20 overall and 1-12 in conference play, got a pair of hits from
Julian Cimino as he raised his team-leading average to .361 for the season. Cimino leads the Lions with eight multiple-hit games and has batted safely in 18 of the 22 games in which he has played this season.
The Lions also got hits from
Noah Beebe,
Jack Shevlin and
Brandon Triantos.
William Nicoletto pitched effectively for 2.2 innings for Albright and
Phil Staehle worked a scoreless 1.1 innings.
Widener scored a pair of runs in the first inning and then added five runs in the second inning, which included a three-run homer from Healey, to take a 7-0 lead after two innings.
The two teams will complete the series on Saturday (April 16) with a doubleheader at Widener beginning at 12 p.m.
