READING, Pa. -- Ten different Albright players scored goals, led by
James Egleston,
Cam Cetrone and
Tyler Strayline who each had three, as Albright rolled to its fourth consecutive victory with a 20-12 MAC Commonwealth win over Alvernia on Wednesday at Shirk Stadium.
Albright, which improved to 5-0 all-time against Alvernia, raised its record to 5-6 overall and remained in first place in the MAC Commonwealth with a 4-0 record.
Derek Stump,
Nate Rhoads,
Nick Tonno and
Austin Read all scored a pair of goals for Albright, while
Andrew Potter,
James Lettieri and
Matt Wighard tallied one goal. Stump led the Lions with three assists to finish with five points, while Cetrone had two helpers for a total of five points. Egleston,
Ethan Howell,
Christian Mayer, Rhoads and
Jordan Zehr also had assists for the Lions.
Alvernia, which dropped to 3-9 on the season and 0-4 in conference play, was led by Benjamin Manning who scored five goals and Jarret Abernethy who had four goals.
Albright dominated the first quarter and led the Crusaders 7-0 behind two goals from Strayline and goals from Stump, Potter, Egleston, Read and Lettieri.
The Lions opened the second quarter with goals from Rhoads and Read to increase the lead to 9-0 with 13:17 to play before halftime.
Alvernia responded with four consecutive goals to trim the lead to 9-4, but Tonno scored an unassisted goal to up the Albright lead to 10-4 with 8:41 to play in the second quarter.
Egleston and Cetrone followed with goals as the Lions increased the margin to 12-4 at the 2:15 mark of the second.
Manning and Wighard traded goals before the intermission giving Albright a 13-5 lead at the break.
Following a goal by Strayline to open the scoring in the third quarter, Alvernia reeled off four straight goals to climb to within 14-9 with 5:13 left in the third quarter.
Albright responded with a 6-1 run to up the margin to 20-10 with 6:37 left in the game.
Albright returns to action on Saturday (April 16) when it hosts Stevenson in a first-place showdown in Shirk Stadium at 1 p.m.
