Yordy Drives in Five in Win against Gwynedd-Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. -- Freshman Jeff Yordy drove in a career-high five runs and Albright jumped out to an 11-0 lead on its way to a 13-6 victory over Gwynedd-Mercy on Sunday at the Gwynedd-Mercy Baseball Field.

Yordy was 3-for-6 with three doubles and scored three runs to go along with his five RBI. He became the first Albright player to drive in five runs since Trey Hook had five RBI against Valley Forge Christian College during the 2014 season.

The Albright offense, which had been shut out in two of the last three games, erupted against Gwynedd-Mercy on Sunday. The Lions scored a run in the first, four more in the second and five in the third inning to take a 10-0 lead after three innings. The Lions registered season highs for runs scored, doubles, total bases and tied their season high for hits.

Yordy, who has nine RBI in the last eight games, had a bases-loaded double that plated three runs in the third inning. He also had a two-run double in the second inning.

Brandon Triantos went 3-for-3 and scored three runs and drove in two runs, while Austin Roth had two hits and drove in two runs and Noah Beebe had two hits to extend his hitting streak to eight straight games.

Connor Travis went 6.1 strong innings to pick up the victory on the mound for the Lions. He allowed four hits and two runs and struck out three batters to earn his team-best second victory of the season.

Trevor Mastria worked the final 1.1 innings for the Lions and permitted no runs and struck out a batter.

Yordy doubled to lead off the game for the Lions in the top of the first inning and scored when Beebe lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

The Lions, who improved to 5-22 on the season, scored five runs in the top of the second inning to take control of the game.

Albright got walks from Joe Suppa and Kyle Gantert and Triantos followed with a single that scored Suppa. Yordy then delivered a two-out double that drove in two runs and Roth followed with a single that drove in another run that pushed the Lions lead to 5-0.

The Lions broke the game wide open in the third inning by scoring five times. Triantos walked with the bases loaded to score one run and Yordy produced a bases-loaded double that drove in three runs. Albright's other run in the inning came via a Gwynedd-Mercy error.

Albright added a run in the seventh inning and two more runs in the top of the eighth inning.

Albright returns to action on Wednesday (April 20) when it visits Susquehanna for a non-conference game at 4 p.m.
