Lions Earn Pair of One-Run Wins Against PSU-Harrisburg

READING, Pa. -- Sera Stull had a walk-off single in game one and Sammi O'Connor delivered a game-winning single in the fifth inning of game two as Albright swept a non-conference doubleheader from Penn State-Harrisburg on Tuesday at the Albright Softball Field.

The Lions took the opener 3-2 when Stull delivered a walk-off single and Albright completed the sweep with a 4-3 victory in game two.

Albright built a 2-0 lead in the opening game only to see Penn State-Harrisburg rally with single runs in the fifth and sixth inning to tie the game.

Regina Milburn started the Lions game-winning rally in the bottom of the seventh inning by reaching first base after being hit by a pitch. She advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Brianne Long.

She moved to third on a ground out by Stephany Courtney and then came home with the winning run when Stull lofted a ball to right center that fell in front of a sliding Penn State-Harrisburg outfielder.

The walk-off single made a winner of Sammi O'Connor who allowed four hits, just one earned run and struck out seven to improve to 16-7 on the season.

Stull finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and two RBI, while Kelly Cimbrale went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Albright also received base hits from Jordan Chell, Stephanie Pomante and Long.

Albright jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second game only to see the Nittany Lions come back to tie the game at 3-3. After Penn State-Harrisburg tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth inning it took the Lions only two batters to regain the lead for good.

Chell roped a double to left to start the inning and O'Connor followed with a single to right that brought home Chell with the eventual winning run.

Winning pitcher Riley Gerenda worked out of trouble in the top of the seventh inning to preserve the win for the Lions.

She walked a pair of hitters in the seventh inning, but induced a fly out to rightfield to end the game and improve her record to 7-3 on the season.

Chell, O'Connor, Pomante, Milburn and Long all had hits for the Lions in game two.

Albright, which improved to 23-10 on the season, will return to action on Thursday (April 21) when it hosts league-leading Messiah at 3 p.m.
