Cetrone Leads Lions Past Messiah 9-5

READING, Pa. -- Cam Cetrone scored four goals and finished with five points leading Albright to a 9-5 victory over Messiah in the MAC Commonwealth opener for both schools on Saturday in Shirk Stadium.

Albright, which snapped a five-game losing streak, gained a measure of revenge against the Falcons after Messiah ended the Lions season in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament semifinals last season.

Cetrone led Albright with four goals, while Andrew Potter tallied three goals and had an assist. James Egleston added two goals for the Lions and Ryan Higgins and Derek Stump also had assists on the afternoon.

Ryan Aler was outstanding in goal for the Lions as he turned aside nine shots, which included seven saves after halftime.

Albright, which improved to 2-6 overall and 1-0 in MAC Commonwealth play, found itself in an early hole when Luke Hall scored a pair of goals for the Falcons.

The Lions got on the scoreboard when Cetrone scored an unassisted goal at the 4:16 mark of the first quarter to trim the lead to 2-1.

After Trey Hanshew upped the lead to 3-1, Egleston scored back-to-back goals to tie the game at 3-3 after one quarter of play.

Potter put Albright ahead to stay at 4-3 when he scored an unassisted goal and Cetrone extended the lead to 5-3 with a goal at the 3:50 mark of the second quarter.

Hanshew brought Messiah to within 5-4, but Cetrone scored a goal of a feed from Higgins to up the lead to 6-4 with 1:11 to play in the third quarter.

Potter tallied an unassisted marker at 12:12 of the fourth to increase the Lions lead to 7-4.

Tyler Goglio answered for the Falcons with a goal at the 8:37 mark of the fourth, but Potter and Cetrone added goals for Albright to secure the victory.

Albright won 5-of-7 faceoffs in the second half and were 9-for-9 in clear attempts in the final three quarters. The Lions held a slim 31-30 advantage in shots and forced Messiah into 16 turnovers on the day.

Albright returns to action on Wednesday (April 6) when it visits Arcadia in a MAC Commonwealth game at 7 p.m.
