Albright Stunned at Widener 14-7

CHESTER, Pa. -- Senior James Egleston tied his career high with three goals, but Widener outscored Albright 8-3 in the second half on its way to a 14-7 MAC Commonwealth victory over Albright on Wednesday at Leslie Quick Stadium.

Egleston scored an unassisted goal to open the third quarter to bring the Lions to within 6-5, but the Pride responded with a game-changing 5-0 run over the remainder of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth quarter.

The run pushed the Widener lead to 11-5 with 12:19 to play in the game. Albright scored back-to-back goals to climb to within 11-7, but the Pride closed the game on a 3-0 run.

Albright, which fell to 5-8 overall and 4-2 in conference play, also received goals from Derek Stump, Andrew Potter, Nate Rhoads and Nick Tonno. Stump, Jordan Zehr and Cam Cetrone had assists for the Lions.

Widener, which improved to 6-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play, was led by Tim Taylor who had four goals and two assists. Tyler Schulte finished with three goals and Marc LaVine added two goals for the Pride.

Taylor opened the scoring in the game with a goal at the 14:50 mark of the first quarter, but Egleston responded with the equalizer at the 13:22 mark with an unassisted goal.

Vince Marra put the Pride back in front, but the Lions responded again with a goal by Potter to tie the game at 2-2 with 6:52 to play in the first.

Chris Drake gave Widener the lead for good when he scored with 1:40 remaining in the opening quarter.

LaVine and Schulte upped the Widener lead to 5-2, but the Lions got goals from Tonno and Stump to climb to within 5-4 with 2:11 to play before halftime.

Mitchell Phillips gave Widener a 6-4 lead at the intermission with a goal off a feed from Kyle Gratz.

Egleston then opened the third quarter with a goal, but the Pride then reeled off its game-changing run.

Albright returns to action on Saturday (April 23) when it visits Lycoming in MAC Commonwealth action.
