READING, Pa. -- 
Tanner Brescancine drove in a pair of runs, but Alvernia scored five late runs to pull away from Albright and post an 8-2 victory in the MAC Commonwealth series opener on Friday at Angelica Park.
Brescancine went 1-for-4 and drove in two runs, while 
Zach Krause finished the game 2-for-4 for the Lions. Albright also got base hits from 
Micah Storms, 
Julian Cimino, 
Jack Shevlin and 
Kyle Gantert.
Trevor Mastria worked six strong innings for the Lions before running into trouble in the bottom of the seventh inning. He permitted just three runs over the first six innings, but was reached for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. He allowed eight hits, walked a pair of batters and struck out three.
Daron Pijanowski worked a scoreless eighth inning for the Lions.
Albright, which dropped to 5-24 overall and 1-15 in conference play, trailed 3-0 before getting back into the game in the top of the sixth inning.
Storms led off the inning with a walk and advanced to third when Cimino roped a double. Brescancine then delivered a two-run single to left that brought home both Storms and Cimino to trim the Crusader lead to 3-2.
Alvernia, which improved to 23-12 overall and 13-3 in conference play, answered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Dillon Dunne drove in a pair of runs for Alvernia, while Joe Icabellis scored three runs for Alvernia.
The two teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader at Kelchner Field on Saturday (April 23) beginning at 12 p.m.
Saturday will also mark Senior Day for the Lions as they will honor 
Dylan Price, 
Doug Franks, Cimino and 
Brandon Triantos prior to the game.
