Yordy Drives in Run in Series Opener at Arcadia

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Freshman Jeff Yordy had a hit and drove in a run, but Arcadia jumped out to an early lead and held off an Albright charge to post a 6-2 MAC Commonwealth victory over the Lions on Friday at Erny Field.

Arcadia, which improved to 16-9-1 overall and 7-3 in conference play, jumped out to a 4-0 lead after five innings and then held off the Lions over the final four innings.

Yordy finished the game 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Noah Beebe and Tanner Brescancine also recorded hits for Albright. Julian Cimino, who saw his streak of reaching base end at 19 games, drove in the Lions other run on the afternoon.

Friday also saw the return of all-conference infielder Nathan Fretz who had missed the previous 17 games due to injury. He finished the game 0-for-4 at the plate, but handled all four chances in the field flawlessly.

Trevor Mastria started for the Lions and went 6.1 innings and permitted five earned runs and struck out six batters. Daron Pijanowski worked the final 1.2 innings and allowed one earned run and struck out two.

Michael Nessel had a double and a triple and drove in three runs to lead Arcadia. Justin Chasmar had three hits and Nick Todero had two hits and an RBI.

Arcadia held a 4-0 lead before Albright got back into the game with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning.

With one out, Brandon Triantos advanced to second base on an error by the Arcadia center fielder. Fretz lined out to right field, which allowed Triantos to advance to third base with two outs.

Yordy then plated Triantos with the Lions first run when he reached on an infield single to shortstop. Beebe followed with a walk and Yordy came around to score when Cimino reached on an infield error to cut the lead to 4-2.

Arcadia stretched the lead to 6-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Albright dropped to 3-17 overall and 0-10 in conference play.

The Lions and the Knights will conclude the three-game series on Sunday (April 10) with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. at Kelchner Field.
