Sussingham Scores to Lead Lions to Victory

READING, Pa – The Albright men's soccer team defeated Delaware Valley 1-0 Saturday night in Shirk Stadium. The win puts the Lions at 2-3 on the season, while the Aggies fall to 2-2.

Albright scored the only goal of the night in the 9th minute of play. Sophomore Jared Leckburg played a low cross into the box, where senior Andrew Sussingham collected the ball and tucked a shot into the corner of the net to give the Lions an early lead.  Junior Zachary Lahey was also credited with an assist on the goal, which is the first of the year for Sussingham.  Albright out-shot the Aggies 9-4 in the half, but the score remained 1-0 after 45 minutes of play.

The second half saw both teams produce scoring chances, but neither club was able to find the back of the net.  Albright freshman goalkeeper Billy Mullen had four saves in the second half, seven for the game, in recording his second clean sheet of the season.

Sussingham supplied offense all night for the Lions, firing seven shots, three on goal.  Senior Josh Linsmeier had four shots in the game and Leckburg added three for Albright.

Albright will look to continue its winning ways Wednesday night, when Mt. Aloysius College comes to Reading for a non-conference match.  Start time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Shirk Stadium.
