Men's Soccer Goes to Double Overtime, Ends in a Tie

READING, Pa – Albright and Mt. Aloysius battled to a 1-1 draw Wednesday night in Shirk Stadium. The Lions are now 2-3-1 in 2016, while the Mounties stand at 2-2-1. The game was also a homecoming for Mt. Aloysius head coach Matt Davis, who graduated from Albright and was a teammate of current Lion head coach Chris Tadley.

The teams played through a scoreless first half in which scoring chances were hard to come by. Albright managed four shots in the half, while holding the visiting Mounties to just one shot.

Scoring chances were again at a premium in the second half, until Albright got on the board in the 77th minute. Freshman Antonios Araviakis took a free kick for the Lions that was deflected by the Mt. Aloysius keeper. Freshman Andrew Burke was there to clean up the rebound, putting the ball in the net to give Albright a 1-0 lead with just 13 minutes to play. Araviakis was credited with the assist on the goal.

The Lion lead was short lived. Thomas Sloan scored for the Mounties off an assist from Kevin Ouellete in the 81st minute to level the score at 1-1. Neither team was able to score for the final nine minutes of regulation time or two 10 minute overtime periods as the game ended with the score knotted at one.

The game was extremely physical, with the teams combining for nine yellow cards and Mt. Aloysius seeing both a player and an assistant coach get sent off with red cards in the final overtime period.

Albright freshman goalkeeper Billy Mullen faced eight shots and had two saves in net for the Lions.

The Lions will travel to Harrisonburg, VA on Saturday to face Eastern Mennonite University. Game time is scheduled for 12:00.
