Lions Push Winning Streak to Five

READING, Pa. – The Albright women's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals and a stifling defense to defeat Moravian 2-0 in non-conference action Tuesday night in Shirk Stadium.  The win is the fifth straight for the Lions, who improve to 5-3 on the season.

Albright and Moravian (3-3-1) battled through an evenly played opening half.  The Lions out-shot Moravian 6-4 in the half, but the Greyhounds collected five corner kicks to just two for Albright. Moravian nearly broke the scoreless tie in the 39th minute, when Juliana Caranci's shot hit the post, and the score remained knotted at zero after 45 minutes of play.

The Lions broke through fifteen minutes into the second half.  Junior Crissy Terraces played a cross into the Moravian box, where senior Megan O'Brien got her head on the ball and beat Greyhound goalkeeper Jessica Lawton to give Albright a 1-0 lead.  The goal is the first of 2016 for O'Brien, while Terraces picked up her first assist of the year as well.

The Greyhounds nearly tied the score 10 minutes later, when Page Weiss' header off a corner kick hit the post and bounced away.  It would be Albright that scored the all-important second goal, when sophomore Brittany Lutz scored an unassisted goal in the in the 78th minute to give the Lions a two-goal cushion. Lutz leads Albright with five goals on the season.

Albright locked down the Greyhounds from that point on, not allowing a shot over the final 12 minutes to push their winning streak to five straight games.

Sophomore Alexis Tunney picked up her third shutout of the season in goal for the Lions, coming up with three saves on the night.

Albright returns to action on Saturday, when the Lions travel to Delaware Valley to face the Aggies in a non-conference match.  Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
