SWARTHMORE, Pa – The Albright men's soccer team dropped a 4-0 non-conference decision to Swarthmore College Saturday evening. The loss drops the Lions to 0-2 on the young season, while Swarthmore improves to 1-0.
Swarthmore opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, when Cameron Ricciardi found the top corner of the net from outside the 18 to give the Garnet a 1-0 lead. Swarthmore continued to pressure the Lion defense in the minutes following the goal, but sophomore goalkeeper
Adam Giurlando made three big saves to keep Albright within a goal of the Garnet.
Swarthmore extended its lead to 2-0 in the 37th minute on a goal from Billy Evers, and added a third goal before the half when Ryan Ward found the back of the net in the 40th minute.
Albright's defense stiffened in the second half, as the Lions kept Swarthmore off the scoreboard until the 86th minute, when Evers scored his second goal of the game to give the Garnet a 4-0 lead and the final margin of victory.
Giurlando recorded nine saves for the Lions in his first start of the season. Albright managed just two shots in the contest to 23 for the Garnet.
Albright returns to action Sunday when the Lions return to Swarthmore to take on Rosemont College at 6:00.
