Lions Suffer 4-1 Non-Conference Loss

SELINSGROVE, Pa – Susquehanna notched two goals in each half to down Albright 4-1 in non-conference action Sunday afternoon. Albright falls to 0-2 in 2016, while the River Hawks improve their record to 2-0.

The game started out well for the Lions, as junior Chrissy Terraces found the back of the net in the sixth minute of play to give Albright the 1-0 advantage. The goal is Terraces' first of her Albright career.

The match was played evenly over the next 25 minutes, when a red card was issued to Albright sophomore defender Erica Bross, forcing the Lions to play the remainder of the game with just 10 players.

Less than five minutes later Susquehanna tied the match at one, as Alee Pettit scored off an assist from Cassie Coombs. A minute and 42 seconds later the River Hawks took the lead when Julia Hutsko scored to make the score 2-1. Albright was able to keep Susquehanna off the scoreboard for the rest of the half and headed into the break facing a one-goal deficit.

Susquehanna extended its lead to 3-1 early in the second half when Coombs scored in the 51st minute. Albright narrowly missed a chance to cut the lead back to one five minutes later, when junior Morgan Valera's header hit the post and bounced away.

Albright continued to push despite being a player down, but was unable to find the back of the net. It would be the River Hawks who finished the scoring when Alex Edelman's goal made the score 4-1 in the 71st minute. The shorthanded Lions were only able to produce one more shot on the afternoon as Susquehanna put away the victory.

Sophomore Payton Bogatch started in goal for Albright and registered three saves in the first half of play. Fellow sophomore Alexis Tunney took over in net to start the second half and totaled four saves. The Lions had six shots in the game, five coming in the second half, while Susquehanna finished with 16.

The Lions will play their 2016 home opener on Wednesday, September 7, when DeSales comes to Shirk Stadium for a non-conference match up. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
