READING, Pa. – The Albright men's basketball team shot 52.4 percent from the floor while making 14-of-18 free throws in the second half to turn a one-point halftime deficit into a 76-69 home victory over Arcadia on Wednesday night. Albright held Arcadia to 29.6 percent shooting in the second half, including just 1-for-11 from three-point range.
Albright (8-11, 6-4) trailed 36-35 at halftime and trailed by as many as seven in the second half. That Arcadia lead sat at 47-40 with 15:19 to play. Albright countered with an 11-2 run to take the lead for good.
Omari Ringgold and
Jayson Clark each hit three pointers on the run, and it was capped by a bucket and a free throw on consecutive possessions by
Jared Rappoport. His layup with 11:42 left gave Albright a 50-49 lead, and it would never trail again.
Arcadia (9-10, 4-6) pushed back to tie the score at 61 on an Evan Slone steal and score, but
DeJuan Smith countered with a jumper, and
Garrett Oplinger nailed a three to make it 66-61 Lions with 3:39 left.
Two free throws from Josh Scott had Arcadia back to within two at 69-67 with 1:06 to play, but Albright made eight of its last nine free throws in the final minute-plus to seal the victory.
The Lions stayed in the game in the first half despite shooting 34.4 percent from the floor by making 10 of its 13 free throws attempts. The Lions were also 3-for-17 from beyond the arc in the first half. The Lions defense helped the cause by forcing eight turnovers in the first half, and
Fred Rowles led the way with eight points and six rebounds in the first. Rowles finished with 19 points, 13 rebounds and three steals.
Smith finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Ringgold had 12 points, and Rappoport chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds off the bench. Oplinger had seven points and six rebounds.
Albright stays home to host Stevenson on Saturday at 2 p.m.
