Women's Basketball Dominates Hood, 74-33

READING, Pa. – The Albright women's basketball team had four players score in double figures as it defeated conference opponent Hood 74-33 Wednesday night at the Bollman Center. With its dominating win, the Lions improve to 9-3 and remain a perfect 4-0 in the MAC Commonwealth.

Nina Mazzarelli went six-of-12 from the floor, including three-of-five from behind the arc, to lead the Lions with 15 points. MiKayla Lea added 12 points and six rebounds off the bench, while Alysha Lofton notched another double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Lofton also had a team-high six assists, four steals, and three blocks. Devan Horka was the final Lion to score in double-figures as Horka finished the night with 10 points.

Albright dominated the boards as the Lions held a 52-35 advantage as well as limited the Blazers (6-7, 1-3) to a 21.3 shooting percentage from the field.

The Lions began to gain momentum late in the first half as they closed out the opening quarter on a 11-2 run to take a 21-12 lead. Lea scored four points in 31 seconds to aid Albright in its run.

Albright continued to extend its lead in the second quarter. After giving up a Hood jumper 56 seconds into the quarter, the Lions held the Blazers scoreless for almost eight minutes. During this stretch, the Lions went on a 16-0 run to take a 39-14 lead. Lea got the Lions run started making three straight layups, while Lofton capped Albright's run with a layup of her own with 1:31 remaining on the clock. Amara-Niani Jackson made a free throw to hand Albright a 40-20 lead heading into halftime.

The Lions didn't take their foot off the pedal in the second half as they remained red-hot from the floor. Albright went four-of-six from behind the arc to pull away from the Blazers in the third quarter with Mazzarelli leading the way. The junior made three of Albright's six three-pointers. Niani-Jackson handed Albright its largest lead of the night at 74-33 when she made the team's final basket with 43 seconds left in the game.

The Lions will return to the floor Saturday afternoon when they travel to Annville, Pa., to take on Lebanon Valley. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
