AMHERST, Mass. – Shannon Thomas scored 11 points and
Jane Joyce had nine points and nine rebounds, but the Albright women's basketball team fell on the road at No. 2 Amherst, 78-45, on Monday evening.
The key to the game came early as Amherst outscored the Lions, 24-9, in the first quarter. Amherst (12-0) started the game on a 9-0 run before
Devan Horka got the Lions on the board. Amherst expanded its lead in the second quarter as it took a 44-22 lead into halftime. Horka had all six of her points in the first half.
Albright (10-4) played an even third quarter with Amherst. Baskets by Joyce,
MiKayla Lea and
Alysha Lofton fueled a 6-0 Lions run midway through the period. Thomas had a three-point play later in the quarter as each team scored 11 points in the third period.
Lofton finished with five points and seven rebounds. Lea had six points. Nine different Lions scored in the game.
Albright returns to action with a home conference contest against Lycoming on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
