WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Albright men's soccer team held #11 Lycoming to one goal in the first half, but were unable to keep the game at one in the second half as they dropped a 3-0 road contest to the Warriors in MAC Commonwealth play on a rainy Wednesday afternoon
With the loss, the Lions drop to 2-11-1 on the season with a 1-3 record in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the 11th-ranked Warriors improve their record to 11-1 with a 4-0 record in conference play.
Lycoming came out strong early as they tallied the first five shots of the game in the first 18 minutes of the contest. Freshman
Elijah Bowers would have a decent chance in the 19
th minute on a shot that just went wide of the net. The Warriors continued to pressure the net but sophomore goalkeeper
Billy Mullen stood tall early in the first half to keep the game scoreless. Lycoming finally broke through in the 33
rd minute when Steven Riad scored off a deflection in the box off a corner kick. The Warriors held a 10-2 shot advantage after one.
The Warriors received three corner kick opportunities in the first five minutes of the second half to keep the play deep in the Lions zone. Lycoming cashed in the 56
th minute when Kyle Mizell scored on a great feed to make it 2-0. The Warriors struck again to put the game away in the 60
th minute when Kyle Stenttenbauer scored on a header to make it 3-0.
Lycoming finished with an 18-4 shot advantage, with eight of them going on net. The Warriors also held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
A pair of Lions goalies saw action in the loss, with Mullen making four saves and allowing three goals in 71:03 of action. Freshman
Brendan Hanratty the made one save in the final 18:57 of action. Lycoming had three goalkeepers play in the win as starter Chris Solecki earned the win after playing just over 77 minutes in net and made one save.
Albright will return to action on Tuesday, October 17th when they will travel to face cross-town rival Alvernia in MAC Commonwealth play for a 7 p.m. contest.
