READING, Pa. – A goal off a penalty corner to end the first half ended up being the deciding factor in the Albright Lions field hockey team's 2-1 loss to cross-town rival Alvernia on Saturday morning in MAC Commonwealth play.
With the loss, the Lions drop to 6-6 on the season with a 2-2 record in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Golden Wolves improve to 9-6 on the season with a 3-1 record in conference play. Albright has now lost three-straight road contests.
Alvernia came out flying in the first half after recording the games initial three shots in the contest within the first five minutes of the game. Their fourth shot in the seventh minute of the contest would break the scoreless tie when Andrea Wysocki scored after collecting her own rebound to give the Golden Wolves a 1-0 lead. Albright would then strike back 10 minutes later in the 17

Tracy Snyder scored her fifth goal of the season after receiving a pass from freshman
Bailey Lehman. Snyder has now scored in two-straight games.
The Golden Wolves went right back onto the offensive after the Lions goal and created multiple chances as the first half came to a close, including a shot that was saved by senior

Aileen Taylor was drawn out of position. Alvernia broke the scoreless tie on a goal from Kelsey Stewart right off a penalty corner that ended the first half. The Golden Wolves held a 13-2 shot advantage in the first half.
The second half started quiet for both offenses, but the Lions began gaining steam with a couple of shots just halfway through the period. With seven minutes left, Albright began making a late offensive charge to potentially tie the game. The Lions got five penalty corner chances and tallied four shots in the final minutes but were unable to find the equalizing goal. Their best chance came on a shot from sophomore
Kaley Donmoyer that was turned away by a defensive save from Alvernia's Erica Groves.
Albright held an 8-5 shot advantage in the second half to bring the overall Alvernia shot advantage to 18-10. Alvernia also held a slight 10-7 advantage in penalty corners.
Taylor suffered the tough loss after making 10 saves and allowing two goals in the entire 70 minutes of action. Golden Wolves goalkeeper Emma Beanesderfer earned the win after making four saves and allowing one goal in the full 70 minutes.
The Lions will return to action on Wednesday, October 18
th when they will host Arcadia in MAC Commonwealth play at 4 p.m.
