Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls in Overtime to Hood, 2-1

READING, Pa. – In heartbreaking fashion, the Albright men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss in overtime to Hood on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth play at Shirk Stadium.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 2-13-1 on the season with a 1-5 record in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Blazers improve to 2-4-1 on the season with a 2-4-1 record in conference play.

The Lions struck first in the 5th minute when junior Jared Leckburg tallied his first goal of the season after receiving a free kick from classmate Miles Williams. Hood then responded in the 10th minute after Robert Ellerson ripped a free kick from about 20 yards out through traffic and into the net to tie the game at one. Senior Nathan Hughes nearly gave the Lions the lead back in the 16th minute on a short-range shot that was saved by the Blazers goalkeeper. Leckburg almost scored his second goal of the game in the 38th minute, but just sent a shot wide of the post. The teams each tallied four shots in the first half.

Hood came out on the attack in the second half by registering three shots within the first 10 minutes. Junior Anthony Parlato had a direct kick opportunity in the 64th minute that was poked high that kept the game locked at one. The Lions then had a goal controversially called off with just over 20 minutes left in the half after freshman Alex Lahey was called offside after a free kick opportunity from sophomore Antonios Araviakis bounced off a wall of Blazers players into the box. The teams were unable to break the time which brought the game to overtime. In the extra period, both teams had shots saved before Alain Shekanino uncorked a shot from 25 yards across his body out that went into the top left corner in the net to win the game for the Blazers in the 98th minute.

The Blazers held a 13-6 shot advantage for the game behind a 7-1 margin in the second half. Hood also held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks as well.

Sophomore Billy Mullen suffered the tough loss after making six saves and allowing two goals in the full 97:40 of the game. Blazer goalkeeper Brandon Merson tallied the win after making three saves and allowing one goal in the entire contest.

The Lions return to action on Wednesday, October 25th when they will host Widener on Senior Night at 7 p.m.
