READING, Pa. – The Albright women's soccer team rallied from an early deficit to register a 2-1 win over Hood in MAC Commonwealth play on Saturday evening at Shirk Stadium.
With the win, the Lions have now won five straight games and improve to 10-5-1 on the season with a 4-1-1 record in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Blazers have now lost seven in a row and fall to 8-8-1 on the season with a 0-6 record in conference play.
The Blazers stunned Albright early with a goal in the 5
th minute of play off a kick from Erin Scarborough from 25 yards out that sailed over junior goalkeeper
Alexis Tunney. The goal snapped a string of four straight shutouts for Tunney and 541 minutes for the Lions without allowing a goal. The Lions pressed back after the goal by dominating possession in the Blazers zone. Freshman
Daniella LoBue nearly tied the game in the 11
th minute after having her shot cleared out by a Hood defender when the goalkeeper was drawn out of the net. With pressure mounting, the Lions had back-to-back chances to tie it in the 42
nd minute off chances in front of the net from sophomore
Bree Bowles and junior
Erica Bross. The Lions finally cashed in with just 21 seconds left in the half when freshman
Aniyza Bell scored the first goal of her collegiate career off a through ball from senior
Crissy Terraces.
Albright continued to control play in the second half with a couple of more shots that were just saved. Senior
Morgan Valera would then give the Lions the lead in the 65
th minute after taking a free kick from the far right side inside the 10-yard mark. Valera roped her shot past everyone into the net for her second goal in two games. The Lions came close to extending the lead in the 76
th minute off a penalty kick opportunity from
Emily Saxon that was saved by Blazer goalkeeper Olivia Feinberg. Hood made one last charge in the final minutes, but were unable to find the equalizer.
The Lions held a 17-6 shot advantage for the game, with 13 shots going on net. Albright also held a sizable 12-3 advantage in corner kicks as well.
Tunney earned the win after making three saves and allowing one goal in the full 90 minutes of play. Feinberg, in her first collegiate start, made 11 saves and allowed two goals in the entire 90 minutes.
Albright will return to action on Tuesday, October 24
th when it hosts Widener for Senior Night at 7:30 pm.
