Men's Soccer Drops 3-1 Contest to Lebanon Valley

READING, Pa. – The Albright men's soccer team gave everything they had on Saturday night against Lebanon Valley, but dropped a 3-1 home contest in MAC Commonwealth play.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 2-10-1 on the season with a 1-2 record in conference play. Meanwhile, the Dutchmen improve to 7-2-1 on the season with a 1-1 record in conference play.

Lebanon Valley pressed early in the contest and nearly got on the board in the 7th minute on a close shot in the box, but Lions goalkeeper Billy Mullen made a great save on the play. Albright then had three corner kicks within a minute of each other that produced two shots but no goals. The Dutchmen then got their break in the 43rd minute after a foul that was called just above the box which gave them a good free kick opportunity. Matt Prince sent a perfect cross to the left wing that was headed in Riley Katshir to give the Dutchmen a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, the Dutchmen came out firing with three shots within the first 15 minutes that nearly extended the lead. After a shot from Nathan Hughes that was blocked in the box, the Dutchmen countered with their second goal of the game when Jake Kline scored in the center of the box after a right cross from Katshir. The Lions then made things interesting again in the 67th minute when sophomore Antonios Araviakis ripped a free kick through traffic from about 20 yards out to score the first goal of his collegiate career. Albright created pressure after the goal but were unable to keep it a one score game when the Dutchmen tallied one last goal in the 84th minute to put the game away.

The Dutchmen outshot the Lions 23-6 for the game after holding a 14-3 advantage in the second half. They also ended up holding a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks after receiving all of them in the second half after the Lions had all six in the first half.

Mullen took the loss after making seven saves and allowing three goals in the full 90 minutes of play. Dutchmen goalkeeper Cam Avery earned the win after making one save and allowing one goal in the entire 90 minutes.

Albright will return to action on Wednesday, October 11th when they will travel to face nationally-ranked Lycoming for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
