READING, Pa. - Cam Cetrone and
Nick Tonno each scored four goals for Albright as they helped the Lions notch their first win of the season over Mary Washington.
The game started off with some tight defensive play as it took seven minutes before either team got on the board. Mary Washington jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but that deficit was quickly erased by
Jordan Zehr 33 seconds later. Mary Washington quickly added two more goals to recapture the lead, 3-1.
Derek Stump cut into the lead before the Eagles extended it back up to 4-2. Tonno added a man-up goal with 9:33 left in the second period as the teams traded goals again. Cetrone scored two of his four goals in the final two minutes of the half to take a 5-5 score into halftime.
The Lions didn't look back once the second half started. They scored four consecutive goals to open the half to make it 9-5. To begin the fourth period, the Eagles scored two goals to chip into the lead. However, Albright put their foot on the pedal again, as Tonno scored three of his four goals in the final five minutes of the game.
Mary Washington had 31 total shots on the afternoon while Albright had 30. The Lions had 20 shots on goal while the Eagles had 19. Albright also won the faceoff battle with 13 wins to the Eagles' 11.
Cetrone and Tonno led Albright with four goals each, while Zehr and
Andrew Potter each scored two goals of their own. Stump scored one goal, while
Ryan Aler made 12 saves on the afternoon.
The Lions stay at home to play Ursinus on March 4 at Shirk Stadium. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
