READING, Pa.- Hayley Joyce broke the single-game school record for saves with 15 for the Lions, but that wasn't enough as they dropped a close game at Ursinus, 7-5.
It took eight minutes for the scoring to open up as Ursinus put up the first goal of the game. It didn't take long for Albright to answer back as
Sophie Bass and
Mariah Cullen scored back-to-back goals to make it 2-1.
With the score at 2-2,
Kelly Baumann scored her fourth goal of the year with five minutes remaining in the first half to give Albright the lead.
The Bears added two goals to the board in the final 45 seconds of the first half to take a 4-3 lead into the half.
After another Ursinus goal in the first minute of the second half,
Devon Mela scored back-to-back goals for Albright as it forced the game into another tie with 10 minutes remaining.
Ursinus scored two more goals and held off Albright for the rest of the game to win, 7-5.
Albright was outshot, 31-17, on the afternoon. Of those shots, 12 were on goal for Albright compared to 22 for Ursinus. The Lions forced 12 turnovers while scooping up 16 ground balls.
Mela netted two goals on the afternoon while Bass, Cullen and Baumann each added a goal.
The Lions next play in their home opener on Wednesday against Stockton. The game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
