Women’s Lacrosse Victorious in Home Opener, 10-5

READING, Pa.- Six different players scored goals for the Albright women's lacrosse team as it took home a 10-5 victory over visiting Stockton in its home opener on Wednesday at Shirk Stadium.

It didn't take long for the first points of the game to go on the board as Devon Mela scored the first goal only 42 seconds into the game.

After a goal by Stockton, Sophie Bass scored her first goal of the game to put Albright up 2-1 with 26:40 on the clock.

Katie Keough briefly made it a two-goal lead for the Lions before Stockton got back within one.

With 19:07 left in the first half, Patricia Horgan netted a goal that sparked a 4-0 run for Albright over a span of 25 minutes.

Stockton ended the run with a two-goal streak of their own within the final 15 minutes of the game to trail 7-4.

The Lions added two more goals from Kelly Baumann and Mariah Cullen before Bass scored the final goal for Albright.

Cullen netted three goals while Bass and Baumann each scored two. Mela, Keough and Horgan each added one goal. Hayley Joyce made eight saves on the afternoon.

Albright racked up 28 shots while Stockton had 23. Of those shots, 24 of them were on goal for Albright while Stockton had 13 on goal. Albright forced 20 turnovers and won 13 draw controls.

The Lions travel to Elizabethtown to take on Elizabethtown College on Saturday. The game is scheduled for 12 p.m.
