Baumann Lifts Women's LAX to Overtime Win

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Freshman Kelly Baumann scored the game-tying goal in regulation before netting the winning shot in overtime to lift Albright women's lacrosse program to a thrilling 12-11 victory over Elizabethtown on Saturday afternoon at Wolf Field.

The Lions, who improved to 3-1 overall, overcame a 7-2 halftime deficit on their way to victory.

Elizabethtown took control of the game in the opening 30 minutes as the Blue Jays scored six goals in the first 17:38 minutes. Addie Stang scored a pair of goals in the opening minutes to put Elizabethtown up 2-0 before Dana Robidoux added a pair of goals to extend the Blue Jays lead. Allison McLamb and Katie Thompson scored within 27 seconds of one another to hand Elizabethtown up 6-0 with a little less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half.

Devon Mela put the Lions on board scoring an unassisted goal with 7:56 remaining on the clock. Mariah Cullen scored her first goal of the game two minutes later to pull Albright within four.

Before the clock struck zero, Robidoux collected a hat trick as her shot found the back of the net with only 57 seconds remaining to give Elizabethtown a 7-2 lead entering halftime.

The Lions wasted little time mounting their comeback with Sophie Bass scoring her first goal of the game 1:40 into the second half. Patricia Horgan brought Albright within 7-4 after an Elizabethtown turnover.

McLamb broke the Lions run to push the Blue Jays lead to four before Mela scored her ninth goal of the season to keep the score close.

The Blue Jays regained control of the pace by scoring the next three goals to push their lead to 11-5. Thompson, Stang and McLamb accounted for Elizabethtown's goals.

Albright quickly regained control by dominating the final 12 and half minutes of the game.

Katie Keough started the Lions streak of seven unanswered goals by scoring her second goal of the season with 11:56 remaining in the second half. Five minutes would pass by before Cullen netted her second goal of the game to pull the Lions within four. Corrine Donohue made it 11-8 with her unassisted goal at 4:41, and Bass brought the score within two 56 seconds later.

Trailing by two with a minute left, Cullen recorded a hat trick after scoring from a free position attempt to make it a one-goal game. Elizabethtown looked to run the clock down after winning a draw control, but Albright forced a turnover with 13 seconds remaining. Donohue scooped up a groundball to start a Lions good clear attempt. Baumann finished the play by netting the game-tying goal with three seconds left to force overtime.

Baumann completed the Lions comeback 26 seconds into overtime scoring her eighth goal of the season after Cullen took control of the draw.

Haley Joyce made six saves to earn the win for Albright, while Abby Kopytko also had six saves in net.

Cullen was the lone Albright player to have a hat trick. Mela, Bass, and Baumann all scored a pair of goals for the Lions. Cullen also finished with two assists.

Albright returns home to Shirk Stadium on Tuesday when it faces off with Meiji University in an exhibition game. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
