READING, Pa.– Four different Albright women's basketball players scored in double figures, propelling them to an 84-69 victory over Lebanon Valley College Saturday afternoon at the Bollman Center.
Lebanon Valley College managed to keep it close in the beginning, as Albright took a 31-30 lead into the half. In the third quarter, the Albright defense clamped down and held Lebanon Valley College to a field goal percentage of 35.7% while their offense put up a field goal percentage of 50%.
Nina Mazzarelli and
Alysha Lofton led the Lions each scoring seven points. They would take a 52-47 lead into the fourth quarter.
Albright began to pull away late in the fourth quarter.
Shannon Thomas hit a 3 pointer with 4:52 left on the clock to spark a 24-13 run and the Lions never looked back. Mazzarelli also added a 3 pointer with 3:11 left on the clock to push it to 72-62 as Albright lead by double digits for the first time in the game.
The lead swelled to as many as 19 points late in the game. Free throws played a pivotal point as Albright shot 26-of-28 from the line, including a streak of 12-of-12 in the fourth quarter. Albright also outrebounded Lebanon Valley College 11 to 3 on the defensive boards in the fourth quarter.
Mazzarelli led the Lions with 19 points, including shooting 9-of-10 from the free throw line.
MiKayla Lea recorded 18 points, 8 rebounds and 6 blocks, while Lofton posted her 10th double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Thomas rounded out the Albright players in double digits scoring 15 points.
The Lions return to action this Wednesday as they travel to their crosstown rival Alvernia. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
