Softball Splits on Opening Day

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Albright softball team opened its 2017 with a pair of games on Monday, splitting the games. The Lions defeated Carroll, 3-1, before losing to Dubuque, 2-1, in nine innings.

Against Carroll, Stephanie Pomante and Jordan Chell each had two hits including a double apiece to pace the Albright offense. Chell's two-run double in the second inning proved to be the big hit of the game. It scored both Pomante and Brianne Long to give Albright a 2-0 lead. Carroll cut the lead in half in the top of the sixth inning, but Albright got the run right back in the bottom half. Pomante's singled to score Zoe Robertson to make it 3-1.

Riley Gerenda allowed just six hits while striking out five over seven innings of work.

Against Dubuque, Chell had two more hits to lead the offense. She also scored Albright's lone run of the game after a Regina Milburn single. Dubuque tied the score in the fourth inning on an RBI double. The game went to extra innings where Dubuque finally broke through with an RBI single after two outs.

Britney Rodriguez allowed just three hits and two runs in 8.2 innings in the circle. She struck out six.

Albright returns to action tomorrow against Wooster and Wisconsin Lutheran.
