Softball Defeats Wisconsin Lutheran Tuesday

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Albright softball team split its games on Tuesday during its Spring Break trip. The Lions defeated Wisconsin Lutheran, 5-1, after losing to Wooster, 8-2.

Albright scored all five of its runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn the victory over Wisconsin Lutheran. Kelly Cembrale and Jessica Rodriguez singled, and Stephany Courtney reached via a fielder's choice to load the bases with one out. Armida Roman's single scored Cembrale to tie the game at 1-1.

Corinne Garuffe was the next hitter, and she reached on another fielder's choice to score two more runs thanks to a throwing error on the play. With the Lions ahead, 3-1, Brianne Long singled to right to score two more runs to complete the five-run inning.

Rodriguez led the Lions with two hits. Riley Gerenda went the distance, allowing just one run on seven hits without giving up a walk.

In the loss to Wooster, six different Lions had a hit. Albright tied the score at 1-1 in the third inning on an RBI groundout by Cembrale. Wooster broke open the game in the bottom half of the third, though, plating five runs to take a 6-1 lead. Long scored on a fielder's choice in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 6-2, but Wooster responded with a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame to make it 8-2.

Albright returns to action in Florida on Thursday with games against Washington (Md.) and Marietta.
