KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Albright softball team lost both of its games on Thursday. The Lions fell to Washington (Md.), 5-3, before dropping a 7-2 decision to Marietta.
Albright (2-4) fell behind early against Washington, allowing three runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the bottom of the third to make it 5-0.
Armida Roman got one of those runs back in the top of the fourth inning. She doubled home
Jessica Rodriguez who led off the inning with a triple.
Stephany Courtney had a two-out single in the sixth inning to score
Corinne Garuffe to make it 5-2. Garuffe reached on a fielder's choice and stole second to get into scoring position before Courtney's hit.
Trailing 5-2 in its final at-bat, Albright loaded the bases with one out. Roman notched her second RBI of the game with a ground out to score
Kelly Cembrale, but that would be the final run to cross for the Lions.
Cembrale led the Lions' offense with a 3-for-3 day at the plate.
Marietta also took a 5-0 lead on the Lions, scoring runs in four of the first five innings. Albright broke through with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Rodriguez doubled home
Stefanie Braciszewski with one out to make it 5-1. Braciszewski led off the inning with a walk.
After the second out of the inning, Rodriguez scored on
Jordan Chell's pinch-hit, RBI double to center field. That made it 5-2. Marietta responded by getting both of those runs back in the top of the seventh inning to round out the scoring.
Rodriguez had two of the Lions' four hits. Chell and Cembrale each had a hit.
Camille Sears pitched two innings in relief in each game, allowing just a combined one run on five hits on the day.
Albright concludes its Florida trip with two games on Friday afternoon. The Lions face Utica at 1:30 p.m. and Farmingdale State at 3:45 p.m.
