KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Albright softball team split on the final day of its spring trip to Florida. The Lions defeated Utica, 3-1, before losing to Farmingdale State, 11-7, in eight innings.
Albright gave up a run in the bottom of the second inning, but the Lions managed to tie the score in the top of the fourth.
Britney Rodriguez led off the inning with a double, and
Regina Milburn brought her around with a single in the next at-bat.
The score stayed the same until the seventh inning.
Kelly Cembrale's second hit of the game was a one-out double. After a second out,
Brianne Long singled to put runners at the corners. Long stole second, and
Jessica Rodriguez followed with a two-run single to give the Lions a 3-1 lead. Cembrale, Long,
Stephany Courtney and
Jordan Chell each had two hits. Albright had 11 for the day.
Riley Gerenda pitched a complete game, allowing just the one run on six hits while striking out five batters.
In the second game of the day, the Lions fell in extra innings to Farmingdale State. The Lions finished its week in Florida with a 3-5 record and are scheduled to open conference play at Messiah on Wednesday.
