FORT PIERCE, Fla.- Jeff Yordy,
Zach Krause and
Logan Adams each had an RBI in the first game but that wasn't enough as Albright fell to Messiah, 5-3 at the Lawnwood Complex.
Albright started things off in the first inning when
Nathan Fretz singled to center. Next at bat,
Jimmie Gentry singled to right field advancing Fretz to third base. This set things up for Yordy who grounded out to second base and drove in Fretz to put the first run of the game on the board.
Messiah tied the game up in the top of the third before Albright added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Tanner Brescancine started off the bottom of the inning by reaching on an error.
Micah Storms advanced Brescancine to second base on a ground out before Krause singled to right field driving in Brescancine.
The top of the sixth inning is when Messiah scored its remaining four runs. The Falcons scored on a single to center field, an error and a single to right field.
Albright recorded the final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Krause forced a walk, where
Logan Pennypacker pinched ran for him.
Brandon Daubert doubled to left field, allowing Pennypacker to advance to third base. Adams grounded out to first base, forcing Pennypacker across the plate.
Matt Fisher led Albright with five innings pitched. He gave up one unearned run and struck out two batters.
In game two, Albright was led by Fretz who recorded two hits and two runs. While Brescancine recorded the only RBI for Albright as they took the second game, 5-4.
Messiah started off the scoring in the top of the third inning when it scored on a single and a wild pitch to go up 2-0. It added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning coming from a triple and a ground out to third pushing its lead up to 4-0.
The scoreboard exploded for the Lions in the bottom of the sixth. Fretz started off the bottom of the inning with a single to center field. Next up, Gentry hit a single to advance Fretz to second base. The runners advanced to third and second on a wild pitch.
Noah Beebe forced a walk to load the bases. Brescancine singled to right field driving in Fretz from third as the bases remained loaded. Gentry and Beebe scored on an error by the pitcher as Brescancine advanced to third base. After a strike out by Storms, Daubert struck out, but reached on an error by the catcher which allowed Brescancine come across the plate to tie the game up at 4-4.
Fretz scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh when he advanced to third base on a fielder's choice and ran home on an error by the catcher to put Albright up 5-4.
Shaun O'Reilly led the Lions with five innings pitched and one strike out.
Mat Costa picked up his first win of the year in relief.
Albright returns to the diamond on March 17 when the Lions take on Messiah College. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
