Muhlenberg Blanks Baseball, 4-0

GARNET VALLEY, Pa. – Muhlenberg held the Albright baseball team to no runs on six hits as the Lions fell, 4-0, in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon at Maplezone Sports.

The Lions (6-6) had singles from Nathan Fretz and Jeff Yordy in the top of the first inning, but a caught stealing in the middle of the hits removed a scoring opportunity.
Muhlenberg came back in the bottom of the first inning with three runs. The Mules used four singles in the frame to score those three runs, and a two-out, two-run single gave Muhlenberg a 3-0 advantage.

Tyler Keller and Fretz each reached on errors in the top of the fifth to put runners on the corners with two outs, but a groundout ended the threat with the Lions still trailing by three.

Muhlenberg added to its lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Mules had a hit batsman and a wild pitch go its way to help plate the fourth run on another RBI single. After that single, Muhlenberg had the bases loaded with just one out, but Drew Lewis wiggled out of the jam without allowing another run. He wasn't charged with a run in two innings of relief work. Nick Dinnocenti suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs and four total in five innings.

Albright continued to put men on base, but the Lions couldn't string together a couple hits in a row. Joe Suppa singled with two outs in the seventh. He moved to second on a wild pitch, but a groundout ended the inning. In the eighth, Jimmy Gentry led off the inning with a walk. Yordy took his place after a fielder's choice, but he was stranded at second.

Brandon Daubert doubled to lead off the ninth, and Keller followed that with a walk. A strikeout, caught stealing and groundout followed that, however, to end the game.

Six different Lions had a hit apiece, and Keller reached on a pair of walks. Gentry had a single to go along with his walk.

Albright is back in action tomorrow against Widener in MAC Commonwealth play at 3:30 p.m. This game will also be played at Maplezone Sports.
