GARNET VALLEY, Pa. – Austin Roth went 3-for-3 while
Jeff Yordy homered to go along with two RBIs and two runs scored, but the Albright baseball team lost to Widener, 7-5, on Friday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth action at Maplezone Sports. The loss evens the Lions' conference record at 2-2.
The Albright offense got off to a fast start after being shut out on Thursday. Yordy singled after two outs in the top of the first, and he moved to second when
Noah Beebe walked.
Tanner Brescancine came through with a two-out base hit to bring Yordy around for a 1-0 Albright lead.
The Lions added another run in the top of the second. Back-to-back doubled from
Zach Krause and Roth pushed the Lions' second run across for a 2-0 advantage. Widener got a run back in the bottom of the fourth. Two singles sandwiched around a sacrifice bunt helped the Pride get on the board to make it 2-1.
Widener took the lead in the home half of the fifth. The Pride started the inning with four straight hits, and a two-run double in that stretch gave Widener a 3-2 lead. Two more runs scored in the frame to make it 5-2.
Widener scored another in the sixth to make it 6-2, but Albright got back into the game with two runs in the eighth. Yordy had hit second hit of the game on a homer also scored Jimmy Gentry to make it 6-4. Widener got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-4.
In its last at-bat, the Lions managed to bring the tying run to the plate thanks to a one-out single by Roth followed by a double to left from
Nathan Fretz. Gentry singled to score Roth to make it 7-5. With runners at the corners and one out, though, the Lions couldn't push two more runs across.

Connor Travis allowed a run on four hits with five punch outs in four innings of work, earning a no-decision.
Albright and Widener finish the series with a doubleheader at Kelchner Field tomorrow at noon.
