Women's Lacrosse Battles Farmingdale State

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Albright women's lacrosse team battled against Farmingdale State but ultimately fell to its opponent 14-12 in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Lions dropped to 4-4, while the Rams improved to 5-0.

Mariah Cullen was the first Lion to score tying the score at one in the early minutes of the first half. Farmingdale State scored three unanswered goals before Sophie Bass halted the streak with 19:17 remaining in the first half.

After a Rams goal, the Lions went on a streak of their own. Cullen and Bass each scored their second goal of the half within 34 seconds on one another. Baumann found the back of the net with less than eight minutes remaining in the first to knot the score at five all.

Farmingdale State quickly regained the lead scoring two goals to take a 7-5 lead before the Lions battled back. Baumann scored off a free-position to bring Albright within one.

Devon Mela tied the score once again for the Lions with her first goal of the game with 3:10 remaining in the opening half. The momentum shifted in favor of Farmingdale State with the final minutes ticking away as the Rams took a 9-7 lead into halftime.

The Rams continued their hot shooting as they extended their lead to 12-7 in the second half. Bass ignited the Lions second half comeback as the sophomore scored back-to-back goals. Bass recorded her third goal of the game on a free-position shot with 25:14 left on the clock. The sophomore scored her fourth and final goal a little over four minutes later to pull the Lions within three. Patricia Horgan's lone goal of the game aided Albright in its comeback attempt as the goal put Albright down 12-10. Cullen recorded a hat trick with 15:16 remaining in the second half to cap the Lions run and reduce the Rams lead to one.

Farmingdale State extended its lead to two before Mela scored Albright's final goal of the game with 13:12 left. The Rams would score two more goals before the final whistle blew.

Bass led all players with four goals, while Cullen added three. Mela and Baumann each scored two goals with Baumann also recording two assists.

Albright opens conference play on Wednesday when the Lions travel to Williamsport, Pa., to face off against Lycoming. Face off is set for 4 p.m.
