READING, Pa.- Mariah Cullen recorded a hat trick and had two assists for the Albright women's lacrosse team, but the Lions lost at home to Messiah, 16-7, on Saturday afternoon.
Messiah jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Cullen fed an assist to
Devon Mela who cut the lead to 3-1. The Falcons took a 7-1 lead into the second half.
Messiah went on a six-goal run that extended from the first half into the second, before Cullen and
Danielle Carey scored back-to-back goals for Albright to cut the lead to 9-3.
After two more goals by Messiah, Cullen scored on a feed from
Sophie Bass.
Kelly Baumann recorded a goal and Mela scored on another assist from Cullen to cut the score to 11-6.
Cullen scored with 1:20 left in the game to make the score 16-7.
Hayley Joyce got the start in net for Albright, recording six saves on the afternoon. Cullen lead Albright with five shots and Mela scooped up three groundballs.
Albright recorded 16 shots, forced 13 turnovers and came up with 11 draw controls on the afternoon.
The Lions return to the field on Wednesday when they travel to Chester to take on Widener. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
