Stevenson Tops WLAX in Final Home Game

READING, Pa. – Kelly Baumann and Sophie Bass each recorded a hat trick for Albright, but the Lions fell short to conference foe Stevenson 23-11 at Shirk Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Lions (8-6, 4-2 MACC) were unable to keep pace with the Mustangs (8-6, 5-2 MACC) early in the match as Stevenson rattled off four unanswered goals.

Baumann snapped Stevenson's streak scoring the Lions first goal 4:42 into the match to cut the Mustangs' lead to 4-1.

The Mustangs added three more goals to extend their lead to 7-1 before Devon Mela scored her first goal of the game to put Albright within five.

After a Stevenson goal made it 8-2, the Lions mounted a comeback scoring five unanswered goals in 11 minutes to pull within one.

???????Baumann ignited Albright's offensive surge after her shot found the back of the net with 19:08 remaining on the clock. Patricia Horgan scored back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to three. Bass and Mela each netted one goal to make it a one-goal game.

Stevenson answered with three goals of its own in the final minutes of the opening half to take an 11-7 lead into halftime.

The Mustangs continued to put pressure on the Lions in the second half. Stevenson scored five unanswered goals and quickly extending its lead to 16-7.

Albright continued to chip away at the Mustangs' lead after Bass scored her second goal of the game with 20:35 remaining in the half. Baumann added a goal over a minute later to pull the Lions within seven.

Stevenson added two more goals to extend its lead to 18-9. Corinne Donohue scored her lone goal of the day with 12:54 left in the half to score the Lions 10th goal of the evening.

The Mustangs scored five of the final six goals of the half with Bass being the only Lion to score in the final 10 minutes.

Bass and Baumann each netted a team-best three goals during the match with Baumman also recording two assists. Mela and Horgan each added two goals, while Donohue finished with one goal. Haley Joyce made 10 saves for Albright.

Albright had 18 shots with 14 of them on goal. The Lions forced 15 turnovers and won 17 draw controls in the match.

Albright continues its season on the road Saturday afternoon when the Lions travel to Glenside, Pa., to take on Arcadia. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
