READING, Pa. – The Albright men's lacrosse program gifted its 12 graduating seniors the best present ever: a dominating 18-6 win over conference foe Arcadia and clinching a spot in the MAC Commonwealth tournament Saturday afternoon at Shirk Stadium.
The Lions (7-6, 5-2 MAC) kept the pressure on the visiting Knights (3-11, 1-5 MAC) starting in the very first minute. After a pre-game Senior Day ceremony,
Nick Tonno scored only 15 seconds into the opening quarter to hand Albright a lead it would never relinquish.
Jack Bobel and
James Lettieri scored within seven seconds of one another to extend the Lions lead to 3-0. Arcadia cut the deficit to two with 1:20 remaining on the clock, but Tonno answered with his second goal of the match with 14 seconds remaining to make the score 4-1.
The second quarter saw plenty of action with both teams combining for eight goals.
JJ Boliaux scored his lone goal of the game to extend the lead to 5-1. A pair of seniors teamed up for Albright's sixth goal of the game.
Cam Cetrone fed the ball to
Tyler Strayline, whose shot found the back of the net. Less than a minute late
Derek Stump scored his first goal of the match to put the Lions up 7-2 with 11:56 remaining in the second.
Andrew Potter added a goal of his own four minutes to put Albright ahead 8-2. After an Arcadia goal, Albright scored back-to-back goals to enter halftime with a 10-3 lead. Cetrone scored both goals, including one in the final second of the half.
Albright continued its offensive surge at the start of the third quarter. The Lions opened the second half with three unanswered goals to jump ahead 13-3. Stump ignited the run by netting his second goal of the game. A.J. Beck of Arcadia made a save on a Potter shot, and then attempted to pass the ball before Cetrone intercepted and scored his third goal of the match. Potter found Tonno in front of the net for the Lions 13th goal. Arcadia and Albright exchanged goals in the final minutes of the third quarter with
Jordan Zehr scoring for the Lions.
Tonno scored his fourth and final goal of the match almost four minutes into the final quarter of action to put the Lions ahead 15-4. The Knights answered with a goal of its own to pull within 10, but Cetrone extended Albright's lead to 11 for a second time with 7:29 left on the clock. Arcadia scored its sixth and final goal of the game with 5:23 to cut the deficit to 16-6 before Albright scored the final two goals of the match.
Kevin Pierson scored his first goal of the season with 4:20 remaining in the second half.
Andrew Sussingham wrapped up the Albright scoring with his first goal of the season in the final minutes of action.
Six seniors recorded goals in their final home game of the regular season. Tonno and Cetrone led the team with four goals each as Cetrone set the career goal records with 151 goals. Stump added a pair of goals and assists while eight Lions netted one goal.
Albright wraps up the regular season on Saturday, April 29, when the Lions take on Alvernia in a match scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
