READING, Pa. – Logan Pennypacker went 3-for-4 with a run scored, but the Albright baseball team lost in non-conference action to Gwynedd Mercy, 15-2, on Wednesday afternoon at Kelchner Field.
The three-hit game is the first multi-hit game of the freshman Pennypacker's career. His first hit came in the second inning, pushing
Brandon Daubert to third and
Jesse Fikslin to second to load the bases with one out with Albright trailing, 5-0. A double-play ball snuffed out the rally, though, with the Lions not able to add any runs. Pennypacker led off the fifth inning with a single, but another double play eliminated him in the next at-bat.
His third single came in the seventh inning, and it helped the Lions get on the board. Fikslin moved to third on the hit, and he scored thanks to a balk during the next at-bat.
Pennypacker moved to second on the balk, and he went to third on a wild pitch. The throw to third to try to get him went down the line into left field, and Pennypacker hopped up and scored easily.
Fikslin,
Nathan Fretz and
Tanner Brescancine each had a hit for the Lions. Gwynedd Mercy scored runs in seven of its nine at-bats, including six innings with multiple runs.
Albright gets back into MAC Commonwealth action at home on Friday against Arcadia. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
